Clinical Research Radiation Oncology Fellowship - BC Cancer and University of British Columbia – Radiation Therapy Program

Fellowships Positions in Calgary Summer 2027
Location: Arthur Child Cancer Centre, Calgary, AB, Canada
Application deadline: July 01, 2026The Division of Radiation Oncology, Department of Oncology is seeking applications for at least 2 Fellowship Positions to begin July 1, 2027.
Clinical and research activities will focus on MR-Linac, brachytherapy, stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), patient reported outcomes, and/or health services research, but other areas of specialization can be accommodated based on the successful candidate’s interest.
For candidates interested in both prostate and gynecologic brachytherapy, our fellowship program is an accredited Area of Focused Competence (AFC) in Brachytherapy training program with successful completion leading to a Diploma of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (DRCPSC).
One fellowship position will be dedicated to the Person Centered Radiation Oncology Service Enhancement (PROSE) program – a department wide initiative to systematically integrate patient-reported outcomes into routine clinical care.
These one-year fellowships will provide an opportunity to gain clinical expertise, research and publication productivity. The Division of Radiation Oncology has close collaborations with the Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute.
The newly opened Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre is a leading health care facility, academic, and research centre that provides cancer services for Calgary and Southern Alberta. The Arthur Child has 10 Linacs and 2 MR-Linacs. There are two MRIs dedicated for simulation and brachytherapy, as well as orthovoltage, a CT simulator, and a PET-CT simulator. Clinical radiotherapy programs include MR-Linac, prostate and gyne brachytherapy, SBRT, TBI, pediatric cancers and stereotactic radiosurgery.
With a population of 1.3 million, Calgary is the third-largest city in Canada. Located 80km from the Canadian Rockies, Calgary consistently ranks as one of the most livable cities in the world. Many of our prior fellows have found permanent staff positions across Canada.
Candidates must have successfully completed Radiation Oncology specialty training and have a track-record for academic productivity. In accordance with Canadian immigration requirements, preference will be given to Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada. The University of Calgary respects, appreciates, and honours diversity. Strong preference will be given to candidates who provide results of successful completion of an English Language Proficiency test in the last 18 months, if one is required per College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta.

Breast / CNS Clinical Fellowship, The Ottawa Hospital
Location: The Ottawa Hospital, ON, Canada
Application deadline: July 15, 2026The Radiation Medicine Program (RMP) of The Ottawa Hospital is seeking applications for a Clinical Fellow in Radiation Oncology with a specific focus on Breast and CNS malignancies beginning July 1, 2027.
This is a year-long fellowship, at the end of which the fellow will have developed subspecialty expertise in the radiotherapeutic management of Breast and CNS malignancies. There will be a particular emphasis on advanced techniques used in both tumour sites, such as Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT), Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) and Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) for local, regional, or distant tumour sites. The fellowship will combine clinical service with clinically oriented research, with a minimum of 50% of time protected for research activities.
The specific objectives are to:
· Develop subspecialty expertise in VMAT and SBRT for breast and CNS malignancies, including SRS/SBRT for the treatment of brain, spine, and oligometastatic disease.
· Participate in a comprehensive portfolio of multicentre and cooperative group trials, as well as local research studies.
· Attend and actively contribute to the Centre’s weekly multidisciplinary breast, neuro-oncology, and neurosurgery tumour boards.
· Conduct research projects in breast and/or CNS oncology, with the expectation of presenting findings at national or international meetings and producing at least two first-author peer-reviewed publications. Potential projects may include secondary analyses of existing intra-departmental datasets (e.g., partial breast irradiation cohorts), implementation of an MR-Linac breast study, or investigations involving surface-guided radiation therapy in collaboration with medical physics.
· Pursue optional short rotations in breast surgery to gain insight into surgical indications and techniques, and/or in medical oncology to enhance understanding of systemic therapies and ongoing clinical trials.Candidates must be competent in both spoken and written English. Applicants from Canada and abroad are welcome to apply but preference will be given to Canadian applicants or those with permanent residency status who have successfully completed board certification.

Our radiation medicine program is spread over two physical sites and has a cadre of modern equipment for simulation, planning and delivery making it one of the best equipped centers in Canada. The program delivers 7000 courses of radiotherapy per year and routinely uses advanced techniques such as VMAT, stereotactic radiotherapy for all treatment sites as well as adaptive radiotherapy (including an MRI linear accelerator).
