Canadian Radiation Oncology Portal web-site launched

TORONTO, June 1 /CNW/ - Dr. Robert Pearcey, President of the Canadian Association of Radiation Oncologists (CARO), announced today that the Canadian Association of Radiation Oncologists - Association Canadienne des Radio-Oncologues (CARO - ACRO) web-site was launched on the internet this morning at www.caro-acro.ca for cancer professionals, cancer patients and the public.

"This web-site will be the medical portal for information related to radiation oncology and the treatment of cancer with radiation", states Dr. Pearcey. Currently, patients and their families access treatment information in bits and pieces on internet sites in the USA and Europe where medical practices may vary and be somewhat different than in Canada. This can be confusing for patients. "Patients, family physicians and referring physicians will be able to access information on treatment of the common types of cancer. Links on this new web-site will also direct the public to cancer treatment centres across Canada and will provide them access to current national standards and guidelines of care."

"Cancer professionals will also be able to access the latest information on radiation oncology treatments and we will be providing continuing education for radiation oncology professionals. CARO members will be able to communicate easily with each other for discussion on treatment of specific cases."
