Symposium on Geriatric Assessment in the Oncology Setting and related issues in geriatric oncology
October 11, 2011, 13.00-17.00, Hart House, University of Toronto
More than 40% of incident cancer cases occur among individuals aged 70 years and older, but older patients, particularly those with significant comorbidities, are undertreated and underrepresented in clinical trials. While older cancer patients are increasingly receiving cancer treatment, determining treatment options can be difficult. Geriatric assessment tools have been developed to assist cancer specialists in the clinical management of older persons. This symposium seeks to communicate findings regarding the feasibility and effectiveness of existing geriatric assessment tools, and to provide recommendations based on a systematic review of the literature.
This symposium will profile current developments in the field, and aims to stimulate the next generation of research through information-sharing and networking with health practitioners, decision-makers and experts in the field of geriatric oncology. We invite you to attend and participate in this symposium, and to contribute to the improvement of the practice of geriatric oncology and to enhance policies for health care delivery for older cancer patients in Canada and around the world.
