Invitation to Montreal 2008

The CARO Annual Scientific Meeting 2008 entitled "Targeting the Tumour Microenvironment in Radiation Oncology will be held in Montréal September 10-13, 2008. The preconference program starts on Wednesday with the CARO Resident's Refresher Course, a half day Brachytherapy Symposium co-sponsored by the Canadian Brachytherapy Group, and an all day translational research symposium targeting tumour cell signaling and microenvironment.

The formal program runs from Thursday to Saturday. Abstracts were solicited for the general paper and poster viewing and discussion sessions. All abstracts were reviewed by a panel of experts in their field.

Last year we introduced a submission and peer review process for educational refresher courses, the French Connection, symposia and skills building workshops, which will be run concurrently on Friday and Saturday.

Participants can also attend a CARO theme symposium on Imaging the Tumour Microenvironment: Hypoxia, Stem Cells and 4-D Response, and listen to our keynote speakers over the course of the program. The 2008 CARO Lecturer is Dr. Peggy Olive, who will speak to "Predicting Response to Radiation - Tumours or Normal Tissues?". Dr. Juanita Crook, the 2008 Gordon Richards Lecturer, will present "Prostate Cancer: A Paradigm for Progress in Radiation Oncology".

The CARO Awards Dinner promises a fun and exciting close to a busy four days. Montréal is a great city for walking, where you can easily and safely explore its vibrant neighbourhoods on foot, at any time of the day or night.  Montréal is a vibrant multicultural city, boasting more than 80 ethnic communities, and enjoys an outstanding reputation worldwide for gourmet dining.

We look forward to seeing you in Montréal.
